Mandatory : if something is mandatory, the law says it must be done

Crash helmets are mandatory for motorcyclists.

Meaningful : 1 having a meaning that is easy to understand and makes sense:

Mediocre : not very good [= second rate]:

I thought the book was pretty mediocre.

Narrow-minded : unwilling to accept or understand new or different ideas, opinions, or customs [= prejudiced; ≠ broadminded]:

His attitude is narrow-minded and insensitive.

Naughty : 1 a naughty child does not obey adults and behaves badly [≠ good]:

You're a very naughty boy! Look what you've done!

Nearsighted : unable to see things clearly unless they are close to you

Nebulous : 1 an idea that is nebulous is not at all clear or exact [= vague]:

'Normality' is a rather nebulous concept.

Neighbourhood : 1 an area of a town or city:

She grew up in a quiet neighborhood of Boston.

Nibble : 1 [intransitive and transitive]DF to eat small amounts of food by taking very small bites:

He nibbled the biscuit cautiously.

Obscure :  1 not well known and usually not very important:

The details of his life remain obscure.

Obscene : 1 relating to sex in a way that is shocking and offensive [ rude]:

obscene phone calls (=calls from an unknown person saying obscene things)

Obstruct : 1TT to block a road, passage etc [= block]:

A small aircraft was obstructing the runway.

Obvious : 1 easy to notice or understand:

The obvious way of reducing pollution is to use cars less.

Ointment : a soft cream that you rub into your skin, especially as a medical treatment

Obituary : an article in a newspaper about the life of someone who has just died

Pacify : 1 to make someone calm, quiet, and satisfied after they have been angry or upset:

'You're right,' Rita said, in order to pacify him.

Partial : 1 not complete:

The exhibition was only a partial success.

Patron : 1 someone who supports the activities of an organization, for example by giving money:

a wealthy patron

Peculiar : 1 strange, unfamiliar, or a little surprising:

There was a peculiar smell in the kitchen.

Pedestrian : someone who is walking, especially along a street or other place used by cars

Peddle : 1 to sell goods to people, especially goods that people disapprove of because they are illegal, harmful, or of not very high quality [ push, deal]:

They were accused of peddling drugs.

Peer : 1 [usually plural]PG formal your peers are the people who are the same age as you, or who have the same type of job, social class etc:

American children did less well in math than their peers in Japan
